Hair Styling with Extensions: How to Make It Work for You

It’s not uncommon for women to be unsatisfied with their hair and want a change. However, there are many reasons why we don’t make that change: time, money, and most importantly, fear of messing up your natural hair. We can’t all afford to get our hair done every week. Sometimes it’s just not possible, and sometimes we’re too lazy. Why not fake it?

You can create an entirely new look by applying some fake hair to your head! Hair extensions and wigs provide an easy way for women to change hair length, thickness, and texture without spending the time or money needed for a haircut.

You can create a new look with fake hair to feel fabulous without breaking the bank on your hairdo! There are many different types of fake hair, but for the sake of simplicity, we will be covering three: clip-in extensions, wigs, and hair weaves.

Clip-in Extensions

Clip-ins are often worn by women who want to add a few inches of length or volume to their natural hair. They’re an easy, in-between solution for people looking for some extra thickness without having to commit entirely to one style.

The downside is that they don’t look as realistic and are made from poor-quality synthetic hair. The clips can also be seen sometimes, especially if you have thin hair. And you definitely cannot go to sleep wearing them!

How do I Clip-in Extensions?

To begin, you’ll need a comb or brush to straighten out any knots or frizz in your hair and the extensions.

Next, section your hair by the nape of the neck into two parts, clipping away the top section of the hair into a bun using a hair clip. Clip the first piece of hair extensions (preferably a three clip weft) into place and then continue to clip smaller pieces in by sectioning your hair as you go until you have reached your desired length.

Make sure you’re clipping your extensions very close to the roots of your hair to make them blend in and prevent the clips from slipping.

Taking Care of Extensions

To take care of your extensions, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle the knots and frizz. Brush or comb through hair with fingers for more volume before styling it again. Avoid products that are too heavy because they will weigh down your hair and make clip-in extensions look tacky.

Do not frequently wash your extensions, as this will cause them to dry out and break. Wash them every 15-20 uses after they become unmanageable with organic shampoos and conditioners only!

Wigs

Wigs are the most effortless hairstyling option. They are also the most expensive and can range from $200 to over a thousand dollars. They are also more difficult to find than clip-in extensions or hair weaves. You need to find a wig company that will provide you with a well-made wig that is realistic in color and texture and tailored to your desired size.

Wigs are the most trending fashion in hairstyling today due to the versatility and variety that they offer. They help disguise thinning hair and will let you transform your whole look instantly! These come in all different lengths, colors, styles, and textures.

They can be styled just like natural hair and will last as long as you take care of them correctly. Wig maintenance instructions usually come with the product, but if not, then there are many tutorials online that instruct you how to wash and condition synthetic wigs using organic shampoos and conditioners.

Hair Weaves

A hair weave is the best of both worlds if you’re looking for more length or volume without compromising on quality. Hair weaves come in many different types: Brazilian, Indian, and Malaysian hair, to name a few. They are usually made from high-quality human hair that looks natural when installed correctly by a professional stylist.

The downside of hair weaves is that they can be uncomfortable because the hairstylist has to braid the whole head and then install them tightly to the scalp. It is also more difficult and time-consuming because each hair strand needs to be sewn individually with a needle and thread. All the pulling and braiding can be especially painful if you have a low threshold for pain.

How do I Take Care of My Weave Extensions?

You probably already know that you should shampoo your hair at least twice a week and condition it after every time. Follow the same hair wash routine even with weaved hair. However, there are other things to do for healthy hair. Every night, before bedtime, braid or plait your locks, so they’re not hanging loose during sleep- this protects against breakage when sleeping on them all night long!

One of the most important tips is keeping the heat in check with an occasional flat iron/curling rod touch-up without overdoing it. Keeping the heat high can be drying (or worse, burning!) out the leave-outs which will result in dry, brittle strands day after day!

Lastly, don’t forget about regularly moisturizing those beautiful braids since neglecting to care for them properly does nothing but leave you with a mess!
