Homeownership is a common dream among people of all ages and social circles. Even so, not all homes — whether rented, bought, or built — look alike. The difference in the comfort levels and appearances in many homes lies in the way these are decorated. Home décor nowadays features several elements, but they all center on adding the right colors and textures into space.
You can achieve colors and textures through the use of machine-sawn or handmade modern rugs, upholstered and painted furniture, curtains, artwork, and other décor elements. One thing that you should consider to get the right balance of texture and color for décor is the textile you use. You have several textile options for your décor. Simply including the one that tickles your fancy may, however, not work positively for your space.
Here are some strategies for using textiles to boost your home’s interior design:
Some people assume that including as many colors as possible in one space is the best choice for warm interiors. This might, however, leave your room looking too busy and like nobody put much thought into its decoration. Pick a neutral color like white, black, gray, or brown, then match it with two bold colors. The neutral tones in this instance should be in the textiles used for your most prominent elements, such as the sofa, rugs, and curtains.
You have a choice between plain and textured textiles. Ideally, plain textiles should go with patterns to generate an exciting look. It’s best to settle for three patterns in the same color as your plain textiles. You can choose from patterns like florals, stripes, checks, geometric, and animal prints. You can also choose to have these patterns on different textile colors so that they do not look too dull in your space. The patterns can also be added in throws, shears, and rugs.
When picking your décor textile, select one that has the neutral and accenting colors of your space. This will tie the three colors you use in a room so that it will not seem that the colors are in disarray in your room. If, for example, you opt for cream, yellow, and blue for your décor, get one cream fabric with yellow and blue stripes.
When picking the patterns of your fabrics, be sure to vary their sizes. If, for instance, you have broad stripes for one material, choose small flowers for the other one. Differentiating your patterns’ scales generates interest in your overall décor and allows décor elements with different sizes to perfectly match.
The above rules are in no way set in stone. You should not be afraid of experimenting. But keep in mind that stepping too far from the rules is not advisable since it might negate the supposed stunning impact of using textiles in home décor. Also, when buying décor textiles, shop from a well-stocked store so that you have multiple options.
