How to Keep Your Skin Looking Healthy

Your skin is one of the first things other people notice about you. Ideally, we are not judged by how we look. Unfortunately, the ideal is not always what happens. If you go out on a job interview, the first date with someone you met via a dating app, or an official meeting with a client who’s got the power to either make or break your career, the person on the opposite side of the table will most likely pay attention to whether your skin looks fresh or not. That will affect how that interaction will pan out. Unless, of course, the person on the opposite side of the table knows better than gauging your worth based on your face’s acne spots or the lack thereof.

Still, it’s better to be proactive about the situation. After all, you have the power to keep your skin looking at its best. Here are some suggestions:

Mind your indoor air quality

Poor indoor air quality exacerbates respiratory illnesses. That we already know. But did you know that it also adversely affects your skin health? Some of the potential problems your skin might encounter due to poor indoor air quality include premature aging, rashes, and dryness. Fortunately, you do not have to contend with those possibilities. Get a residential air purifier and get rid of all those impurities.

Eat healthy food

Skin is the body’s largest organ. And just like your heart and lungs, its health relies upon what you feed it. For fresh-looking skin, eat as many greens as you can. Include the right dose of vegetables and fruits in your daily diet. Beans, lentils, and peas are recommended by experts as well. Complete your skin-boosting meals with mackerel, salmon, and other fatty fish.

The best thing about these foods is they won’t only benefit your skin but your entire body too. To avoid premature skin aging, stay away from refined or processed sugars, unhealthy fats, and too many carbs.

Sleep right

Your body uses sleep to recalibrate itself. As soon as you doze off, your entire anatomy does its self-healing processes. If you chronically lack sleep, your organs will eventually suffer, including your skin. That is on top of obvious manifestations of sleep deprivation such as swollen eyes and eye bags.

Ideally, you get at least eight hours of sleep every night. That will help keep your skin looking young and glowing. No matter how busy you get, you must prioritize sleep. Studies have shown that you can reverse skin aging by getting ample sleep. And if you come to think of it, sleeping more hours is not a very difficult sacrifice to make.

Strictly follow a skincare routine

You do not need to follow the Korean skincare routine if you lack adequate time and money. But you can still care for your skin via the basics. For example, wash with warm water in the morning as soon as you wake up and at night before going to bed. Include cleanser, toner, and moisturizer into your routine. From time to time, get a facial mask on, but don’t leave it for more than 20 minutes. Do facial scrubs depending on your skin’s dryness or oiliness. For normal skin, once a week will suffice.

Avoid direct sunlight

So you wear sunscreen when you’re on the beach. That’s great. But wearing sunscreen should not be exclusive to when you’re vacationing on a remote island. You need to have sunscreen on every time you go out of the house. Those harmful UV rays damage your skin, especially if you’re out and about under the sun between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Get your vitamin D early in the morning.

You must wear sunglasses too. They will prevent you from squinting every time you’re out, thus reducing your chances of getting wrinkles and fine lines surrounding the eyes.

Having healthy self-esteem is important. And as superficial as this may sound, your physical appearance will have a direct impact on how good you feel about yourself. Yes, what’s inside matters more but sometimes your potential boss or potential partner won’t zero in on that from the get-go. After all, should they decide to take the relationship with you further, they’ll have more time to get to know you better.

Therefore, do not shy away from investing in how you look. Do not neglect the basics, including maintaining fresh-looking skin. With excellent skin paired with a good heart, you will be unstoppable. So aim for that combo and settle for nothing less.
